2018 RAM 2500

The fact that there are 27 models of this truck should attest to the popularity of what is considered as one of the best-selling pickups. For 2018, the line continues to grow with two new editions added to the smorgasbord.

Trim Levels

Five body styles are offered with eight progressive trim levels that go from the basic Tradesman to the top Laramie Longhorn, with variations such as the SLT, Sport, and Power Wagon in between. The new additions for 2018 are the decadent Limited Tungsten and a Sports package. The Limited Tungsten may be the most luxurious truck Ram has ever produced, with features such as real wood interior accessories and leather seating.

Engine Power

The standard engine offered with Ram 2500s is a 5.7-liter V-8, which rates 383 horsepower with 400 pound-feet of torque. One of the options is a mighty 6.4-liter V-8 with 410 horsepower. For heavy hauling, an even bigger 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-6 that can crank as much as 900 pound-feet of torque is another available choice. With a bit of thought to selective combinations of drivetrain and cabs, the Ram 2500 can tow up to 18,000 pounds. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual with an automatic as an option.

Big muscular engines with adjustable air suspension as an option create rides that are pleasant, even when hauling extra heavy loads. The 6.4-liter V-8 with a six-speed automatic transmission would be a perfect choice for those wanting a smoother ride with full loads. The Power Wagon is true to the name, with features such as an easy disconnect front sway bar and locking differentials. All editions are available with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and the hydraulic boost makes steering simple.

With the multiple variations of the Ram 2500, it is easy to find one that is comfortable. There is enough room in the Mega Cabs for at least five adults. Adjustable seats upholstered in fabrics ranging from vinyl to leather to cloth provide comfort and support, while the interior surface of the cabins can be range from durable plastics to soft-feel materials in the luxury editions.

A hardworking luxury pickup that includes six air bags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control illustrates the attention that is paid to comfort as well as safety. An overall four-star National Highway Traffic Safety Administration safety rating shows Ram's commitment. Ram adds a rearview camera for 2018, and with the upgrade to Uconnect infotainment system, a cargo-area camera can be included. Additional standard safety features include the electronic trailer brake and a tire-pressure monitoring system with optional collision prevention parking sensors.
