A few of the best menu items to try are the short rib enchiladas, the pork medallions, and the sautéed prawns. There are vegan and gluten-free menu items available. The Fuego Bistro also has live music on the patio every night of the week. Fuego Bistro is reasonably priced and serves unique Mexican dishes you cannot get anywhere else.

Barrio Café Gran Reserva

If you are looking for an upscale Mexican-inspired dining spot, the Barrio Café Gran Reserva is a great choice. The dining environment is small and personal, with only 22 seats in total, ensuring that you will have an exceptional experience every visit. The multi-course menu includes items such as cheese chorizo and Hoja Santa. This exclusive Mexican dining spot is closed between June and Oct. 1, 2018, to prepare for the upcoming season. Spots fill up fast though, so make sure you get your reservations in soon.

Taqueria La Hacienda

Taqueria La Haciendas stays open much later than other Phoenix Mexican spots, making it a popular late night dining choice. They serve food until midnight on weekdays and 2 a.m. on the weekends. Taqueria La Haciendas has a wide selection of Mexican dishes, with a focus on authentic tacos. Everything on the menu is very affordable and includes items such as Asada tacos, carnitas, burritos, and quesadillas. Make sure you bring cash as this popular spot does not yet accept credit cards.

Taco Guild

The Taco Guild borrows traditions from the creation of guilds in Western Europe in the 1600s.  You will immediately notice the unique architecture from the minute you walk into the restaurant. It is designed with stained glass windows, historic pews, and the original ceiling beams. The menu is gastropub-inspired, with a Mexican twist. Just a few of the must-try items include the Guild Trio, the Old World pork adovada tacos, and the New World Peking duck tacos. They also serve brunch every weekend until 3 p.m., complete with cocktails and two-for-one drink specials.

The Original Carolina’s Mexican Food

The Original Carolina’s has been serving authentic Mexican food to Phoenix residents and visitors since 1968. Carolina herself is still a big part of the restaurant and its menu creation today. As you enter the simple and quaint front room, you might be surprised at the delicious tasting food items that come out of the kitchen. Every item on the menu is extremely affordable. The menu includes items such as three cheese enchiladas, green chicken tamales, and red chile burros.

Whether you prefer authentic Mexican cuisine or an upscale Americanized Mexican flavor, Phoenix has something for you. Visit each of these highly rated Mexican spots and see what you think.
