Looking for a few fun places in Gilbert to get outdoors and enjoy the good weather? These are our top picks in the area where you can spend the next sunny weekend.
Freestone Park
Freestone Park is one of the largest parks in the area with tons of different activities for the entire family to enjoy. There is a 22,000-square-foot skate park where everyone from beginner to advanced skaters can challenge themselves. There’s also a playground for young children, a train ride that goes around the park, and an amphitheater where you can watch different live events throughout the year.
Freestone Park is also home to the Central Trail System in Gilbert where you can begin hiking or biking on one of the many trails. The Central Trail System has over 135 miles of marked and unmarked trails that are open to the public year-round. In addition to hiking and biking, the trails are also a popular place to go bird watching.
Greenfield Lakes Golf Course
If you’re looking for a great local golf course where you can get outside and play a round, head to Greenfield Lakes Golf Course. Greenfield Lakes is an 18-hole public golf course in Gilbert. The course is challenging enough for experienced golfers but is also a great course if you’re still learning the game. If you or your kids are just starting out, consider taking some lessons or signing up for one of the golf development programs that are available throughout the year.
Greenfield Lakes also has practice facilities if you’re not quite ready to get out on the course. There is a large driving range with 28 hitting stalls and a large putting green and chipping area to practice your short game, too. The driving range has flood lights, so you can still hit a few balls after a long day at the office.
Mesquite Aquatic Center
For a fun day out this summer, take the family to Mesquite Aquatic Center. The center opens to the public at the end of May and remains open until the end of July. If you want to take your kids for swim lessons, this is a great place to do it. It’s also just a fun place to splash around. There are zero-depth areas for toddlers, kiddie slides, water slides for bigger kids and adults, diving boards, and water features inside the kiddie pool to make it even more fun for the young ones.
Pack a picnic for the day or head to the concession stand to buy drinks and snacks. There are plenty of shaded areas where you can set up your towels for the day. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the different public pools around Gilbert, be sure to get everyone in the family a pool pass for $25.
There are so many great outdoor places around Gilbert where you can enjoy the fantastic weather and keep the whole family occupied. Whether you want to keep active with a round of golf, go hiking and biking on one of the town’s trails, or simply relax by the pool, there’s something for everyone in Gilbert.
